pope_picEdwin “Pope” Coleman

“Pope” Coleman is an urban activist whose primary project of the last decade has been the reclamation, “greening,” and reopening of the historic Rothenberg Preparatory Academy in Over-the-Rhine.  With support from the Over-the-Rhine Foundation, Pope worked to first save the school from the wrecking ball, and then to enlist Cincinnati Public Schools in embracing his vision for the Rothenberg Rooftop Teaching Garden.  Because of his vision and efforts, these inner city children will experience their academic curriculum through the hands-on lens of garden learning for years to come.

If I was a garden plant, I would be a… BEET!  Just like a beet, I am earthy and though I may not turn a bright magenta, I blush easily.

If I was a garden plant, I would be a… MANGO!  I would be a mango, because then I could be either a Cincinnati green pepper, or a tropical fruit.

sara_picSara Storjohann
If I was a garden plant, I would be a… COLUMBINE FLOWER!  They bloom in the spring and send up a mass of sweet flowers on slender stems. They produce beautiful black seeds that are scattered by the wind much like me – going whichever way the wind blows.

If I was a garden plant, I would be a… HEIRLOOM TOMATO!  I’m an heirloom tomato: I’m unique, sweet and adaptable and most importantly for heirlooms, family comes first!

Julie_picJulie Singer
If I was a garden plant, I would be a… MUSHROOM!   I’m a Mushroom because I’m creative, versatile and love hanging out in the woods.
alli_picAli Burns
If I was a garden plant, I would be a… BEET!   I am a beet because I love to turn up the ‘beet’ with my vibrant personality, plant my roots in the earth, and my flavor totally changes with pickling.

If I was a garden plant, I would be … MINT!   I am mint because I love variety, which is the spice of life (& mojitos)! Mint is also a hardy perennial that can weather through tough conditions to grow and flourish.

Ken_picKen Jones
If I was a garden plant, I would be a … BLUEBERRY!  I’m a blueberry because I range from mildly sweet to tart and tangy. Just like me, blueberries are low in calories, are the fruit of a shrub, are ripe from May through October, and are found throughout the world.

If I was a garden plant, I would be … ARUGULA!  You’re expecting some bland old lettuce, then bam! I’m unsuspectingly spicy.

If I was a garden plant, I would be … BROCCOLINI!  Skinny stalks and oh so trendy!

If I was a garden plant, I would be … CHIVES!  I am chives because I work well with others and a little bit of me goes a long way.

If I was a garden plant, I would be … RHUBARB!  An ‘edgy’ veggie that blends well with strawberries; often overlooked yet always tasty!  This veggie has a nice pink-green thing going on too!

donna_picDonna Vitucci
If I was a garden plant, I would be a… TOMATO PLANT FLOWER!  My favorite flower is the tiny yellow one that grows on a tomato plant and then buds into a tiny baby green sphere that eventually becomes practically a pumpkin of red deliciousness known as tomato.
